So you're investing the ca$h money & time into getting your photos taken. Maybe it's professional headshots for your website & social media presence, engagement photos, or a family session. Can I encourage you? It is worth investing the time on the front end to prepare so that you look & feel your best when it comes time to get in front of the camera. This means, thinking through what you are going to wear (and maybe treatin yoself to something new!), hiring someone to do your hair & make up if you want, and most importantly, taking care of your body leading up to the shoot.
I'm sharing a few simple tips on how to prepare for your photoshoot for 3 days leading up to your session. The goal is to minimize bloating, help ward off unwanted blemishes, & ultimately have you feeling confident & beautiful in front of the camera! (My main goal always!) If you want to prepare mentally for your shoot, check out what I wrote about that here.
TIP #1 : Water, Water, Water
Water is one of the easiest, most impactful ways you can help clear up your skin & minimize bloating. Divide your body weight in half & try to drink at least that many ounces of water in the days leading up to your shoot. (This is good practice for everyday life, too!) So for example, if you weigh 150lbs, aim for 75oz of water each day - and more is even better!
Tip: Drinking water with a straw always helps me down more H20 without even realizing it!
TIP #2: Veggies Most!
I don't know what your relationship with vegetables is like, but it's time to spend some quality time with your veggie friends! I don't care if you're paleo, keto, macro, gluten-free, vegetarian bla, bla, bla - everybody needs veggies & LOTS of them! They are packed with vitamins & minerals, they are the best way to FILL you up due to their high fiber, and they serve as a natural detox! Don't feel like you have to torture yourself with vegetables you don't like. Even if the list of veggies you enjoy is short, stick to those few and go crazy! As a big eater (hey, I grew up with 5 brothers!), I love veggies because I can eat a huge plate of them guilt-free!
Tip: Three of my favorite (and easy) ways to prepare veggies are (1) tossing red & yellow peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, and broccoli in olive oil, salt, & pepper and roasting them in the over or over the grill, (2) making a big chopped salad - what's easier than throwing everything in a bowl & mixing it up?! - and (3) spiraling zucchini into noodles and topping with organic tomato sauce & ground turkey.
Tip #3: Avoid Processed Foods
Try to stick to foods that are closest to their original state. Straight from the earth or straight from the farm. Nuff said, I don't have to tell y'all why this is good for you. :)
Tip #4: Cut Back on the Sugar
Too much sugar in our bodies causes inflammation (which can lead to acne) and gets stored as fat. Did you know that sugar - whether natural or not - causes the same reaction in our body? So, whether it's ice cream or wheat bread or even natural sugar from a banana, it's best to keep sugars to a minimum for both clear skin & a healthy body!
I hope these tips are helpful in helping you look & feel your best as you prepare for your photo shoot AND as you take care of your amazing body on a day to day basis! I'd love to hear - what do you eat & drink to feel your best? Share in the comments below! xoxo
