As an artist & someone working in a creative profession, I think it’s so important to stay inspired in fresh ways to expand the way we think and keep ourselves connected to why we love what we do. This shoot was that for me. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to do more things that spark my creative energy, just for the plain heck of it. For FUN. For the sake of creativity. And this shoot was just that!
I hope you enjoy looking through these photos and that they might spark something creative & original within you! The confines of this shoot were simple. Black backdrop. One window of light. Greenery & neutral/white floral details. Neutral & shimmery make up palette. And some of my favorite girls that I’ve been walking with in a Bible study for three years now. None of them models. (Professionally at least. But aren’t they FIRE FIRE FIRE?!) We had so much fun playing and being free together.
I can’t wait to do more shoots like this in the future just fo fun! Have any unique ideas for me to run with? Would love to hear if you have any thoughts on what my next “art project” should be!
It's time to prepare for your photoshoot. You've invested the time into finding the right photographer and scheduling your session & you're also about to invest your money as well. Let's chat about how you can prepare to get the very most out of your session! This is the fist part of a series where I'll also share what to eat in the days leading up to your photoshoot to look & feel your best, & how to choose what to wear for your shoot.
Today we'll chat about 3 ways to prepare mentally for your photoshoot.
1. CONFIDENCE IS KEY
Way easier said than done right? But here's something I want you to remember that will help. You could always lose one more pound, get a little bit tanner, or have more flawless skin. But none of those things hold the key to your confidence. I believe the most beautiful people are the ones who embrace who they are & how they are uniquely made right now, and give others the freedom to do the same. That is true beauty.
And none of those things will matter when you look back on these photos and the memories that they hold. When you look back at your photos, I hope they remind you of this season you're in. Right here, right now. The way you feel. What lights you up. Who you love. What makes you laugh. Trust and know that there is no better day than today for this photoshoot, because it is capturing a moment in time. A season that will never be the same. And that is always going to mean something special to you.
2. BE YOSELF & WERK IT
Personally, my style as your photographer & creative director, is to lead you & direct you so you don't feel unsure of yourself. Unsure of where to put your hands or how to stand. But then, it's the in-between moments that I love MOST. When you break from a pose, or laugh out loud, or whisper something to your husband. Don't worry, I'll be ready.
And let me tell you. There is nothing wrong or weird or insincere about the fact that you are here to get your photo taken & I am here to take it. Don't be afraid to be silly, to be serious, to be crazy. I want you to own that you are in front of the camera and give me all you got. I'll be giving you my very best & I want you to give it right back by simply letting the REAL YOU, which is the most beautiful you, come out.
3. HAVE FUN
Too simple? But really! Feel the freedom to let loose, to laugh at yourself if you trip, to just try the silly idea you have in your head. Don't worry about anything technical. As your photographer, it's my job to take photos that flatter you & highlight who you are. It's your job, to be yourself & have a good time! Tension shows in photos so it is my goal to help you let down your walls & enjoy the process.
My husband Harrison & I had photos taken in a river recently (I am LOVING this trend of waters shoots, let's chat if you want to do one!) and he totally DUNKED me under the water. In that first split second, I thought about my mascara running & the crazy face I was probably making & I felt a tad insecure. But when I decided to just let loose & have fun, it resulted in the most authentic laughs & some of my favorite pictures that feel so real and so US! And that's what I want for you.
Remember. You are beautiful. Innately. Inwardly. Outwardly. In body. & soul. You are a beautiful creation. Not a mistake. Now it's time to capture a glimmer of that in a photo that you'll have forever. So be confident, be yourself, & have fun! See you at our shoot!
